We had a good turnout of players for this afternoon’s 2x4x2 competition and once the draw had been made, we got started on the cotula green. At the end of play, the results of play are kept so that at the end of the season, winners can be found.
We’ve been having lovely days for bowls during the week but we had heard on the radio, the threat of possible rain in many areas during the afternoon. We noted dark areas in the sky and soon after the afternoon break, the first heavy spots were felt and as quickly as possible, teams got the end they were playing completed and then cleared the green. It soon became obvious that all games would be declared finished and when possible, players took themselves and their gear into the clubrooms.
People settled themselves inside and we noted how quickly Green 1 was under water. I took a photo from inside the clubroom, the ideate being that it would show members happily inside and in the background, the green under water. Unfortunately, as can seen, this hasn’t come out well enough to show the conditions. The white area is certainly not the usual green colour in the distance.

Time passed, the rain slowly stopped and it was easily noted that today’s games had finished. I wondered why only one bowl could still be seen on the cotula but we all then noted Jimmy recovering his bowls, one from the green, the other three in the ditch. Perhaps they had been left there for a good wash or perhaps letting them shrink a little in size.
During the week, work has been carried out to enlarge the Club’s office area. I called in yesterday and saw Ken Hayward in action with a paint brush (or was it a roller) and inside the office, Bill Clelland busy doing some of the construction work. When I arrived the workers were having a tea break. Ian Upston had dropped in to get his news-letter and this proved to be a good time for him to help the two ‘builders’ …. even making a cup of tea.
It will be interesting to see the office when the job has been completed.
The photo below shows where it has been extended and that there is a notice already one of the outside walls.
