Waikanae bowler Andrew Johnson, only in his third year of playing the game has set the pundits into searching through Bowls Kapiti Coast records for a player who has won in the same year, both the Men’s Open and Junior Champion of Champion’s Singles.
Playing with his Aero Dynamic’s only acquired five months ago Andrew eclipsed the Open field by winning over Kapiti 21-12, then beat Waikanae Beach’s Warwick Allen 21-8, Rob Cotter of Levin Bowls 21-1 and in the final the recognised Kapiti Coast Centre’s leading bowler from Paraparaumu Beach, Rex Holmes 21-20.
Andrew was equally impressive the next day in the Junior ranks winning the final against Central’s Nikki Morgan 21-14. A point of note was his treatment of both the Levin Bowls Open and Junior Champions beating them both by scores of 21-1 on their home track.
