John Adams’s fours team from Levin Bowling Club wins the Waikanae Winter Cup two day competition for the second time in a row. The same team as last year went through qualifying and post section to make the final without a loss. The field had teams from Taranki, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, Wairarapa and Wellington.
Adams’s team consisting of Martin Howse, Stacey Thomas, Paul Gardner and John Adams skipped out to a handy lead 7 – 3 in the final but the Miramar Bowling Club team from Wellington fought back and going into the last end Adam was holding a two point advantage but with only losing the last end by 1, Adams won the final by 9-8.
Two other teams from Levin Bowling club took part. Griffin’s team of Omeka Feaumati, Roy Dickson, Brian Cooper and Murray Griffin qualified for the top 16 but couldn’t keep up the winning on the final day. Ballinger’s team, Joe Wynk, Wayne Judd, Jim Bagnall and Shoota Ballinger didn’t make the top 16 so ended up in the Sunday gala. They won three and a draw from four games to finish second.
