Winners of the 2009-2010 Championship Pairs

Saturday morning, a 10.00 o’clock start in spite of the gloomy weather, saw the start of today’s final of the men’s championship pairs, Fred Adams and Omeka Feaunati playing Noel McCutcheon and Brian Paquin.
I can’t remember seeing such a large numbers of spectators turning up to watch a final being played in the morning, and it turned out to be a game really worth watching.

Noel held the lead on the 6th end, 6-2, but soon after, Fred and Omeka picked up a three and a four so by the 11th end, the scores were level at 10 all.
It was the 15th end before Noel and Brian got moving again and by the 17th end were one point in front, 16-15. But this was the end of their scoring, Fred and Omeka picking up a five on the 20th end to take them into the lead 21-16 with only one end to play.
Omeka continued with his great play, putting his first bowl close to the Jack and the pressure was really on.
Brian tried to kill the end but only succeeded in putting the Jack in the ditch thus ending the game.
The spectators had seen a quality game which lasted just over 3 hours. Congratulations to both teams for a game of quality.
