Eager to test their skill, our bowlers gathered to see if they could emulate the feat of Grace Virtue who, last week, won a bottle of Grant’s Whiskey in the first round of Corner to Corner.
It was pleasing to see that Graeme and Sue Stevens, Grant’s representatives, were able to see how clever our bowler were and to present the prize to this week’s winner. As well, the sun was out making conditions ideal.
The groups got under way at 5.00pm and as you can see, the resulting efforts varied. Neville is well known for the power he can put into his drives and this photo shows him proudly standing by his effort.

After all the winners from the groups had been found, the play-off ended with our Club Captain, Fred Adams, the winner of Round 2.

Grant’ s Representative, Graeme Stevens presents Fred with his prize.
Earlier in the day, the club held a Men’s Triples Gala and though it was disappointing not to have a full field, those who played enjoyed the better conditions. Yesterday the green had been flooded from heavy rain but today all was well and our bowls ran well.
No teams won all their games so it was ends won that decided the winners:
1st prize – John Mears (s), Noel McCutcheon, Rex Spicer with 3 wins and 23 ends.
2nd prize – Stafford Bell (s), Joe Wnek, Murray Griffin with 3 wins and 18 ends.
Special thanks to Alice and May who spent the day looking after the kitchen and supplying us with lunches and afternoon tea,
You may have wondered why Neville hadn’t received the prize in Corner to Corner after his effort shown in the earlier photo!

Actually, it was the shortest bowl in his group, but he did have a good line, so that was something to be proud of.
Try again next week Neville, as all of the rest of us who didn’t get close to the corner will have to do.
