The Champ of Champ Pairs tournament has been played over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd April at Levin Bowling club.
The Green was once again in fantastic condition with many comments being passed about how excellent the green was, a great credit to all the volunteers for sure.
The first round of bowls saw some very interesting results with the clubs who we thought would have made it through the first round faltering and being eliminated, but as we all know bowls can be very fickle.
Julie and I played Paekakariki first and we had a good win, then followed Waitarere Beach with another good win under our belts, our third game which was the semi final was against Levin Womens, this game was extremely tough with the score being 17 all on the last end, Julie drew 2 lovely shots right by the kitty which sealed the victory for us and much relief to have made it to the final as last year we stumbled at the semi final stage….off home we went full of excitement and nerves about what tomorrow would bring knowing we would once again have a tough team to face in Levin RSA who just recently won the Champ of Champ 4’s.
Sunday final day was upon us with a great team of supporters at the club who with there quite words of encouragement and advice set us off to an amazing start, before we knew it Julie and I were up 18 – 1 but that fickleness of bowls soon engulfed us and Levin RSA ladies were rallying and hit there strides out drawing us for several ends and the pressure really did come on, our saving grace was that we had a good start and a lot of ends had been completed, we held our nerve [ just ] and managed to pick up a few shots which kept our competitors at bay and this resulted in us coming out with a win, the final score being 22 – 13……this is our first Centre Open title for both Julie and I………..special thanks to all the supporters who have made this a memorable experience for us.
