2010 – Day 1

Our first mini-gala for the year and 14 club members turned up for an afternoon of fun. And fun we had, even if the weather wasn’t the brightest.

It was decided to play 3 games of 6 ends with teams being changed after each game, so it ended up with one game of Triples and two of Pairs each time.

Lots of fun, with some good bowls, some poor bowls and the occasional great bowl.

During one of my games, Colin MacDonald got his first two bowls close (reasonably close!) to the Jack and I told him that if he got his third one close, I would record it for future reference. Accepting the challenge, he got his third bowl ‘close’ and then came up to ‘pose’ for the camera …….. as seen here.

Looks as though he is about to do the Haka!!

Holding three shots, things looked good for his team, that is until Grace Virtue played her bowl. As can be seen in the next photo, she had been so impressed with Colin’s efforts, she decided to get into the act and drew the shot. Too modest to come and get her photo taken so the bowls only appear in the photo.

Mini Gala Results:

1st – Omeka Feaunati – 3 wins, 13 ends, 39 points

2nd – Ian Wenham – 2 wins, 11 ends, 32 points

3rd – Lodzia Wnek – 2 wins, 10 ends, 22 points.

Don Hutchins was a little disappointed that he had missed out joining in the gala but also realised that you need to check up in the Handbook to see what is happening. It was only when walking home past the club and saw play on the green that he realised what he was missing.

Next best thing was to have a few ends by himself so that is what he did, starting off the year in grand style.

Up came his first bowl ….. and it was a wrong bias. What a start for the New Year.

Good Bowling to all for the rest of the year.
