Men’s Singles Completed

Two early games this morning to start the post section play in the Men’s Open Singles with Jim Bentley winning his game against Fred Adams and Rex Spicer going down to Grant Pratt.

Jim and Grant then faced each other, resulting in a win to Jim 21-15. The players who had had the bye were also now in action with two of the games, Neville Turnbull v Rob Cotter and Paul Skilton v Noel McCutcheon both being won by the first named by 21 – 11. At the same time, I was playing Omeka who was leading me by 15 to 8 when I managed to get two fours on consecutive ends. This brought me back into the game and I finally managed to win a real battle, 21-18.

Paul Skilton then faced Jim Bentley with the latter winning a hard fought match 21-15. Neville and I played the other semifinal, the game taking quite a time with 1’s being the main number of points won on an end and also with some accurate driving from Neville killing several ends. I finally won the game 21-14 which meant I had to face last years winner, Jim Bentley, in the final.

Conditions were quite testing with the wind fluctuating in direction and strength but Jim certainly played the winning bowls to take the final 21-12, a worthy winner of the title for the second year in a row.

Special thanks to our club members who gave their time to mark all our games and also to our members who came and supported all the players during the day.
