Farewell Roy

For those of us who have been with the club for a number of years, we were sorry to read of the passing of a past club member with whom we shared many a happy time on the green.

Roy Willoughby joined the club in September 1984 and was a regular player until his retirement in 2004.

He was quite a character, enjoyed telling us a story or two and perhaps made his mark, not as a championship winner but as the master of wrong biases.  When often asked how he decided what line he would take to deliver his bowl, he always replied that he just knew where to aim and let the bowl go!

He enjoyed the mid-week competition and was a member of the winning team in the 1990/91 season and in 1986 and 1997 was in winning Balloted Fours teams.

As club treasurer, I had the pleasure of working with Roy from 1994 when he took on the role of auditor for the club which he did for many years.

In recent times, whenever I met Roy, he was always interested on how the club was doing and often recalled our playing time together.

A sad time for us, but also a time  to recall great times together.
