Our only participant, Brian Paquin, won his first game after his bye, 21-14 against the Paraparaumu Beach player but went down in his next game 18- 21 to Ross McLean from Otaki.
In the other semi-final, Otaki Railway player Trevor Howell won his game against Central Levin’s Gary Whiley, a game showing the skills of both players.
The final between these semi finalists was a close one with Trevor just winning the match, progress from last year where he was runner up!
Unfortunately, our Women’s Junior player was not eligible to take part in the Junior Champion of Champions, but for the record, the event was won by Gaylene Nicol from Waikanae Beach against last years winner from Waikanae, Heather Lawton.
Overall, the standard of play from all the juniors was of a high standard and they are to be congratulated on their performances.
Next weekend will see the Champion of Champion Pairs played at Central Levin and we wish our players all the best for that event.
The 2nd day of the Grassroots competition continued today and our team, Margaret Griffin, Susan Boxall and Noel Larsen lost their first game to Ralph and Marlene Bello who, with the help of Selwyn Riwaka from our club, went on to win the tournament. Those who dropped out in this section went on to play in a Plate competition and Margaret and her team went on and won this. Well done. Overall, a good weekend for the club.
