Today was the last chance Susan and I had to play the final of the Mixed Pairs because after tomorrow’s Seddon Shield tournament, the cotula green will be closed for the start of necessary work that is done over the winter period.
While the roll-up players did their thing, we played the match against Omeka Feaunati and Liz Gardener, and we were able to finish the game after 19 of the schedule 21 ends with our score at 21-11. It was a good game and of special interest to me was watching the line Liz and Omeka’s bowls took, big arcs to the Jack from their ‘old’ bowls, something you don’t see too often nowadays.
I was asked to help two Horowhenua College boys, Shem and Tinawe, who have been practising with Brian Paquin over recent works, in preparation for an Inter-college tournament being played at Johnsonville tomorrow. so late in the afternoon, Fred gave me a hand and we were impressed with both boys who showed that they had good basic skills and really enjoyed the game. They supported each other well with helpful comments and praise when necessary It will be interesting to hear how they do tomorrow.
