Saturday 26 June saw the club hold its AGM. There was a good turn out of members in spite of the cool conditions. Although the meeting wasn’t to start until 10am there were lots of things to be organised and by the time I arrived soon after 9.00, there were the usual band of helpers getting things sorted out.

Kitchen helpers were soon at work preparing for lunch
Christine with plenty of bread and Grace and Alice busy on the back bench.

Coral was as usual, ready to sell raffle tickets.
Incoming President, Ken Hayward, seen choosing his numbers.
(no lucky when the draw was made.)
Paul Skilton the current President got the meeting under way and welcomed all present before going on to the business of the meeting.
Life Member, Wynne Bullen, had informed the committee that she wished to take a quieter role in the club and had resigned from her position of Patroness. Paul in accepting her decision, thanked Wynne for the years she had spent with the club, not only as a bowler but also as an umpire, and in a variety of other roles. On receiving a bouquet of flowers and a Certificate, Wynne thanked Paul and the club, and said that though she will not be seen on the green, she will be popping in when she can, to keep an eye on what is place.
The Executive at its last meeting nominated me to take the position Patron, a position I accepted with thanks, remembering that my father had also been Patron of the club. A very proud moment for me.
The election proceeded with Ken Hayward taking the position of President and after taking the chair, he outlined his thoughts on what the new season will bring, noting especially the new artificial green that is to be put down soon.
Full details of the election results can be seen on our club’s web page http://www.levin.bowls.org.nz/
And then it was time for lunch, advertised to members as a ‘light’ meal, but our ladies had done a great job (with help from Brian Cooper ) and there was plenty for all.
It was then time for those who felt a game of bowls would be just the thing to fill in the afternoon (and a few did brave the conditions) but for some of us, there was no choice as we had the Mixed Fours Championship to finish.
The semi-final saw my team – Noel Larsen, Liz Galloway, Susan Boxall playing against Brian Thompson(s), May Thompson, Margaret Lowndes, (filling in for Hildi Ewart) and Jack Willis. We were well wrapped up but it was still very cold, not my idea of bowling weather, but we got going and a three on the first end was a good way for my team to start. We had a lead of 16-3 after the 8th end but then didn’t score again, but still managed the win 16-13.
Into the final then after a brief warming session in the club rooms, another 12 ends to play – this time against Ken Hayward (s),Ann Malone, Murray Griffin and Margaret MacKay — and it still wasn’t any warmer. We were up 5 -1 after 4 ends, then it was their turn to score, taking their lead to 6-5 on the 7th. We then went on and scored on all but 1 of the remaining ends, finishing the match 13-7. It had been a tight game throughout and really could have gone either way, but I was really pleased how my players were drawing, never being very far from the Jack.
It certainly had been a busy and rewarding day.
