A 9.30am start on a real frosty morning saw the two semifinal games get underway today.
Alice, Rex and Murray got away to a good start in their game and by the 7th end, were leading 10-4, but that was the end of their run, losing their game against Joe, Steven and Lodzia, 16-10.
On rink 2, I was playing with Susan and Noel against Brian, Coral and Omeka and things weren’t looking too good when by the 6th end, we were trailing 2-7. Noel was leading well and from there on, we managed to score on all the remaining ends to take the game 16-7.
The final followed lunch and my team was to play the team we lost to on an extra end yesterday.
We started well, and after the first 4 ends, had a small lead 6-1, but dropping a 2,1,5,and a 2 on the next four ends changed things, we being now behind, 6-11 with four ends still to play.
Three more ends saw us regain the lead by1 point and then a one to Joe, saw the game tied 12 all on the last end.
This was the same position we had been in yesterday, and we lost the extra end in that which made us play a third game to qualify. Here we were, in the same position, but this time it was to find the winner of the championship.
We won the toss and took the Jack ( I had confidence in Noel putting the early pressure on our opponents and also, if pressure came at the end, Joe could have that.)
As it turned out, we were holding two shots and Joe had one last chance with his final bowl. Down came his drive, it hit the target, but when the ‘dust settled down’, we were pleased to see that Susan’s earlier stray wide bowl had become very useful, taking the winning shot for us.
The competition had been very good and it was pleasing to see a good turn out of members along to see the games.
My thanks go to Joe Wnek, Steven Felgitscher and Lodzia Wnek for a game played in very good spirit, and my thanks to Noel Larsen and Susan Boxall for their support throughout the championship, making the win a very good team effort.
Ian, Susan and Noel
