Blow and blow and blow, that is what the westerly wind did today, something to make playing in the Handicap Singles more difficult for our ladies. A couple of heavy early showers also made it look as though the day would be a wash out but in the end, five players qualified.
It was interesting how some games went. In the first one I marked, both players coped pretty well with the conditions but the final score of 22-8 to Liz Galloway was no real indication of how the game went. Margaret MacKay was playing well as was her opponent, but Liz was getting the crucial bowl into the head when needed.
Another close game was between Ra Walker and Gwen McLauchlan. The six handicap gave Gwen a good start and the score was close near the end, 20-19, before Ra gained the win.
One post-section game was played and ended with Coral Mills winning the game against Alice Spicer. The semi-finals and final will be played tomorrow morning commencing at 9.00am with Dianne Short playing Coral and Liz Galloway playing Ra Walker. Let’s hope the weather is kinder.
The afternoon will see Have -A – Go at the club, a chance for locals to try out the game. I believe the new surface on Green One will be used so it will be interesting to see how it performs.

The Final Touch – ditch and bank wall covered.
