So much to watch today – Margaret, Alice, Marie, Trevor and Coral gave their attention for a time to the Xmas Parade that passed the club during the afternoon while the Pair’s Finals were being played.

Today’s main feature was the post section games to find the Men’s and Women’s Pairs winners. Five teams had qualified in each section, so the day started with one game each, the others having the bye.
It was unfortunate for Alan Shanks and Paul Gardner that they came up against Ken Hayward and Barry Cross as both these players were in fine form and won the game.
May Thompson and Margaret Lowndes held the lead 10-6 after ten ends but from then on, Ra Walker and Lodzia Wnek got their game going and won 22-15.
The next round saw Neville and Dave playing Fred Adams and Omeka. This was a very close game throughout and the 19th end saw the scoreboard reading 17-13 to Fred. The 20th end completed, one for Neville – score 17-14 to Fred.
Kills when necessary, good bowls all the time and finally, Neville got the three he needed to tie the scores on the 21 end.
More bowls giving problems to both teams, but in particular for Neville. Down came his drive, bowls scattered …. and he was holding 4 points and the win.
The other men’s game in this round was between Shoota Ballinger and Rod Cotter agains Ken and Barry.
Shoota had the lead 15-10 on the 12th end but from then on, only managed to score singles while their opponents managed a couple of 3’s, a 2 and a 1 so that the 20th end saw both teams on 19.
The final end was played and the winning point went to Barry and Ken. A very close game again for the pair.
Margaret MacKay and Alice Spicer faced Ann Malone and Christine in this round and another close game took place. The board read 5all, 8 all, 12 all, 15 all, and entering the last end, Margaret and Alice held the lead by one point. They dropped a 2 on the last end and the game went to Ann and Christine. Another very close game.
Hildi Ewart and Margaret Griffin also played in this round, facing Ra and Lodzia. The two sides kept pace with each other in the early ends but on the day, Ra and Lodzia were too strong. winning the game 23-10.
Into the final and again both games were close.
Ann and Christine held a good lead, 17-7 after 15 ends but two fours and a two brought Ra and Lodzia back into contention and the 19th end saw the score 18-17 to Ann. Singles on each of the last two ends saw Ann and Christine take the title 20 -17
Ken and Barry after and early lead were trailing Neville and Dave 11-13 on the 15th end but gaining a six on the next end saw them take the lead 17-16.
The last end had the score in Neville’s favour 20-17 but by the time he was to play his 3 bowls, the head was in Ken’s favour. Neville’s last bowl was played, a bowl on the head moved and Ken and Barry had won the game 21 – 20.
It had been a very interesting day’s play and held the attention not only of the players but also interested club members. All players are to be congratulated on their play.
