Quite a day as it turned out, starting with the semi finals being played in off and on drizzle but by the end of the final in the afternoon, players were really feeling the sun’s heat.
The women’s semi-final games saw Ra Walker’s team go down to Margaret MacKay’s, 8 -14 and the other match saw Lodzia Wnek’s team have a good win over Dianne Short’s trio, 24-12.
The afternoon final saw Lodzia with Grace Virtue and Gwen McLauchlan playing against Margaret, Ann Malone and Alice Spicer. The score after ten ends had Lodzia in front by one point, 10-9, but a 2 and then a 5 saw Margaret’s team jump into the front, 16-10. The 16th end completed gave the win to Margaret’s team 19-12.

The morning also saw the semi-final men’s round being played
Fred Adams (s), Rex Spicer and Omeka Feaunati met Joe Wnek (s), Bill Clelland and Vern Murphy (l), Fred’s team winning by 22-8.
My team with Paul Gardner and Don Hutchins faced a replay against Nevill Turnbull, Dave Walker and Keith West, the team that played so well against us yesterday. This time we managed to keep up with our opponent and by the 9th end, the score was level at 9 all. So it continued, 12 all on the 14th and the final end saw us get a single to draw the game at 13 all.
The extra end started so well for us with my lead, Don Hutchins drawing his three bowls close as usual. The head was attacked, the Jack moved to our advantage. Neville’s last bowl came close, but not close enough, leaving us the winners 14-13.
It really was a good game with all players doing well. Paul, when we were in trouble on two crucial ends, put the Jack in the ditch! Special mention also about my 89 year old lead, Don, who played exceedingly well, with his bowls never being far from the Jack.
