Workingmen’s Bowling Club Visit

Over the weekend we have had a most enjoyable visit from the Wellington Workingmen’s Bowling Club.

Saturday afternoon saw the two clubs play bowls together; a social time with players in mixed teams, mixing well. This was also a chance for the visitors to try out our new Dales green. All seemed very pleased by the way their bowls ran on the new surface.

The evening meal for all was put on by the visitors and it was very much appreciated.  This was followed by entertainment from Fred Adams and his guitar, and dancing proved to be an enjoyable way to exercise for many.

We all gathered back at the club on this morning, ready to start at 10.00am. Players from both clubs mixed in the teams and the games were an hour each.  I never did see or hear of any winners being declared … Obviously it was not my combination!

Our club put on the lunch and again it was a first class effort. Our thanks go to Marion, Nola and Pat for their work in the kitchen.  By then, the rain had started, light showers but slowly getting heavier.

Neville got things organised so that a Target game could take place; the aim to get a bowl between to bowls at the other end of the green. After each round, the gap was narrowed for those successful to have another shot until a winner could be found.

The women didn’t take long to do this, Margaret Griffin being the most accurate, but the last three men took several tries until Garry Wylie was successful.

This has been an enjoyable weekend and our thanks go to both clubs’ members who have taken part and made the visit such a success.
