You Just Never Know.

This morning, not as cold and frosty as yesterday, saw the post-section play in the Winter Mixed Triples.

Roy James and Neville Turnbull’s teams had the bye so it was a 9.30 start for the other four qualified teams – Susan Boxall playing Margaret Mackay and Bill Clelland playing Hazel Rose.

One should always be confident, but as Susan, Murray and Ian had got quite a hiding in our first game yesterday, I thought it was on the cards that we would suffer the same again. Not making it too obvious, I left my lunch in the car, to be brought out if we came out on top in the first game.

Things certainly didn’t go well int the early stages but somehow we always seemed to have at least one bowl close enough to curtail their scoring to singles and one two.

We entered the 6th end with the board reading 6 nil but at the close it changed dramatically, reading 6 – 8.  Yes, we managed to get an eight (Murray will tell you whose bowl didn’t score!)

And this was the start of our comeback, scoring on all but one of the rest of the ends. No doubt all players are still rying to work out how this had happened.

At the same time, Bill Clelland and Hazel Rose had a good battle but Hazel’s team won 14-10 and went through to the semi-final.

Roy James team now played Neville Turnbull’s team and came out the winner 16 – 5. I understand that Grace Virtue played very well in this game.

We had a very close game against Hazel, Paul Gardner and Don Hutchins and we went in to the last end leading by only one point. Another on the last end saw us go through to the final against, Roy James (s), Grace Virtue and Gwen Mclauchlan.

Susan Boxall (s), Murray Griffin and Ian Wenham maintained a good standard of bowling, winning the match and the title 18-8.

It had been a long two days  of bowls with interesting games and also a pleasure to see the sun shine at times.
