New Season Opens

The early rain cleared and we were able to gather at the club this afternoon to get the new summer season underway.

There was a really good turnout and the match committee got the names sorted out for the afternoon games – Men v’s Ladies. Because the numbers in the sexes were not even, some ‘gentlemen’ were selected to play for the women. I’m not sure how we were chosen (you might guess from that statement, I was one of them), but the games got started once the first Jack and bowl were delivered. (As I was the only Life Member present, that was another job that I was pleased to undertake.) Games were played on the Dales carpet and it certainly looks as though the cotula green will be played on very soon.

Perhaps the good news was that the ladies won more matches than the men. (Another problem, I’m not sure that I really should be pleased about that –  being a male, playing as a female!)

Around 3.00pm, the games were finished but before afternoon team was taken, President Ken gave a short presentation regarding the KCBC plan to adopt a new constitution based on the Bowls NZ model. Members questioned several points which will be further discussed at Monday’s Club Executive meeting so that our representatives will be able to put forward our club’s thoughts on the proposal.

Time then to partake of some of the food brought by members and chat about the new season (handbooks were available to those who have already paid their sub), or perhaps about the Rugby World Cup which started last night.

A new season has now started.
