Interclub Starts

The first two rounds of this seasons Interclub started yesterday, the Super 7’s playing at Paraparaumu Club and the Reserves 7’s playing at the Waikanae Club.

Some overnight rain didn’t cause any problems for our venues and by the afternoon, the time finally arrived to enjoy some sunshine as well as the games.

Our Super 7’s team played Kapiti first and the Pairs and Fours won both their games. The afternoon round was against Raumati South and Shoota recorded a win in his Singles but the Pairs and Fours lost their games. I have heard that a drive by the opposing skip that put the Jack in the ditch, was what gave our Fours the loss. A close finish. I’m not surprised to hear the Omeka lead for the Fours with his usual high standard.

Our two Reserve 7’s rounds were played against Otaki and Waikanae.

Our Fours got off to a good start but then things just didn’t end up right in the latter stages and though some good bowls were played, the Otaki team took out the win.

We finished our game in time to see the end of the Pairs match. Throughout their game the scores were always close but what turned out to be the final end was quite dramatic.

Ken Hayward was holding the shot to reach 25, the needed winning score, and his Otaki opponent, Ross McLeod, had one bowl left. He sent down a run shot and it took out Ken’s bowl and Ross had the 3 points for his win.

Our afternoon round was against the local club’s teams and we had good wins in the Fours and Singles. It was great seeing the high standard of bowls played and I was pleased with my Fours players, and congratulate Stafford in particular for the high consistency of his draw play.

Our Pairs weren’t playing on the same green as us so am only able to note that they lost both of their games.
