Today saw us again playing on the Takaro greens, the final day to sort out the winners and the prizes.
Our morning games were against the club leading at the time, Palmerston North, resulting in a win for the Triples team, Neville, Keith and Murray, Fred and Omeka lost their game on the last end, and Stafford, Roy, Paul and I, after a good early start, went down in the fours.
Over lunch, the organisers sorted out the overall results of all 8 clubs’ results and announced the afternoon’s play; Top team to play runners up, third to play fourth and so on.
This meant Palmerston North were to play Wanganui East, and our club to play Central Levin as we both had the same number of wins placing us as 3rd equal.
Our three games were played on the Tiger Turf artificial green. My team got off to a good start and after eight ends, we were leading 20 – 0, a score that included a 7. We carried on and won our game.
Our pairs team lost their game so it was all up to the Triples. Came to their last end and the score was level. When instructed by Neville to draw a shot, Keith obliged, and though attempts were made to get rid of his bowl, it remained where it was for the teams win.
Afternoon team followed and then the presentation of prizes took place; it was Palmerston North 1st, Wanganui East 2nd, Levin 3rd, Central Levin 4th and so on, all teams getting an appropriate prize for their club.
It had been an interesting competition held over four Mondays and it was pleasing that we had managed to get the third place prize from Tui for our club.
