Winter Triples Completed

Starting at 10.00am this morning were the two semifinal games in the Winter Triples and though a lovely winter morning, the frost on the green caused players quite a few problems.

You can easily see the tracks left by the bowls and players footprints. These were not a problem but when we played the other way, the Jack was so often hidden because it was in the shadow caused by the shade attached to the fence. This made it extremely difficult to decided on how to play one’s bowls. Our skips finally made the decision to change from the yellow Jack to the older white variety. This certainly made the target visible but more difficult to keep on the green as they ran so quickly.

So to the games themselves.

We played Joe Wnek, Margaret Griffin and Maree Anstis and they were in front for most of the game and won in the end, 9-8. They deserved the win with Maree leading very well and Margaret fixing things whenever a problem occurred.

The other game was between Margaret MacKay, Shoota Ballinger and Gary Wylie and their opponents, Ken Smyth, Liz Galloway and Diana McGill. This saw the latter team go through 14-8. I was told that Liz in particular played very well.

The final this afternoon saw Ken’s team get off to a good start and by half way through, had a lead over Joe’s team, 14-4. They carried on strongly and won the game, 17-9.

Congratulation for your win of the Winter Mixed Triples Championship.

Liz Galloway, Ken Smyth (s), Diana McGill
