Once again the club has had this gala sponsored by Bupa, the company that cares for thousands of older New Zealanders in their own homes, with medical alarms, in retirement villages and in Care Homes.
We appreciate Kareen Treder, one of their Healthcare Field Officers, coming from Palmerston North today in poor weather, and telling us about the company and its work and presenting the prizes to the winners.

The tournament started yesterday morning at 9.30am with sixteen teams entered. The green had a light frost on it and once play started, the tracks of the bowls showed what line players were taking.
Once the sun rose higher, the view of the green with the
Tararuas in the background shows a nice day to play bowls.
Two games of eight ends were played before lunch, followed by another two in the afternoon. As it turned out, the results of the first day became very important because over night, rain started and continued off and on today. Time was given for further games this mnorning but eventually, the gala was called closed in the early afternoon.
Prize giving followed but it soon became evident that an error had been made when the results were copied from the scoreboard to paper; a team with only 2 wins were credited with a third which put them into the prize group. A photo of the results board taken the day before revealed the mistake and the rightful team was added to the winner’s list.
