Winter 2x4x2 Ends

It was a doubtful start early this morning but we did get underway at 9.30am and the day remained fine.

We had a full field and Margaret Griffin, the chief organiser of the event, noted at the end of play how well bowler from various clubs, had supported the event.

Susan and I started the day on rink 8 playing the Wenks, and the last end was an example of how some unsuspecting things can happen.

We needed four to get a win and this promised to be a hard thing to do.  I had the last two bowls to play and for a short time, we had three. Lodzia put an end to that, and drawing the shot. I tried with my first bowl to get rid of her bowl but without success. It was then up to my last bowl but as soon as it had left my hand, I knew it was not on target. I turned my back to the head, but then heard some voices coming from the other end. I looked around and saw Susan with three fingers raised!!. Apparently what happened was that my upshot hit my first off line bowl, flew sideways and moved the jack to three of our bowls on the other side of the rink. Thus, we ended the game with a draw. Just shows how things can change when you least expect them.

Our day continued on with a win, a loss and a final win. We did play a three winner in our last game and managed another win. We did express our sorry (sort of) as that put them out of contention.

Results as follows:

1st   Joe and Lodzia Wnek  – 3 and a half wins, 18 ends, 44 points.

2nd  Fred Adams and Joan Hayward – 3 wins, 18 ends, 32 points

3rd   Rod Cotter and Liz Galloway – 3 wins, 17 ends, 32 points.

It was nice hearing each of the above skips thanking the club and those who, in one way or another, had made the competition so successful and enjoyable over winter.

The summer season is approaching – the cotula green looks just fine.
