To qualify, a team had to win at least two out of three games.
My knowledge regarding games played is based largely on the scorecards which do reveal some interesting facts, but in particular, I can report on my team’s games in each round and they give an indication on how one never really knows what is going to happen in a game. One can can assume on paper that a particular team should win their game, but one never knows.
So today, my team, Vern and Omeka played Brian Cooper’s team and we went down 20-6. Dropping two 6’s certainly didm’t help our result.
Came the second game and this was against Neville’s team with Barnaby and Rex. With three ends to go, the scores were level at 11 all. We then picked up a 4, 3, and 4 which gave us a good win.
We still needed one more win to get into post section and we faced Joe and his players, Bill Clelland and Ian Upston.
After 10 ends, we were trailing 13-4 (an early 5 didn’t help us), but we then managed to claw our way back to reach the final end, 13 all.
Ian continued his steady play by putting a bowl very close just behind the Jack and we knew we had a problem. Omeka then came to save us and drew his last bowl just in the gap available behind the Jack and we had the shot.
Ends were changed and I knew that Joe would be at the head so I put my first bowl behind the head as a security. Joe played, but no change. My next bowl was short to be a block; Joe missed BUT managed a wick off a side bowl. Across it came, hit the Jack and it was off on its journey to the side where our opponents had 2 bowls. Nothing else for me to do but draw a shot. I did try, but no go and we are not needed tomorrow for Post section!!!!
So the day ended, the draw for tomorrow was made and games will start at 9.00am I just might pop in to see how things go.
