A full green today saw the start of the Balloted 2x4x2 Pairs – eight men’s and eight women’s pairs taking part on the cotula green.
Three rounds were scheduled with teams having to win at lest two games to qualify for post section
Games started at 9.00am; when the first round finished around 11.00am, lunch was taken then Rnd 2 got started.
Mid afternoon, with just one Round to go, the Men’s Section had Neville’s team with both their games won and all but one of the other teams still having a chance of qualifying.
One just never knows how things will turn out and this was so true in my game with Ian Upston against Ken Hayward and Rex Spicer. After 7 ends we were trailing 2-12, we got a 3 on the 8th and then from then on, we scored on each end so that we played the last end at 13 all. A really tight finish but we scored 2 and thus joined the other three qualifiers – Joe Wnek and Robert Falconer, Neville Turnbull and Keith Galloway, Paul Gardner and Ken Smyth.
In the Women’s Draw, 4 teams needed a win in their last round to qualify – Susan Boxall and Margaret Lowndes, Barbara Selley and Diana McGill, Bronwyn McMahon and Dawn Dales, Christine Gardner and Joan Hayward. Already qualified but having to still play their last game were Lodzia Wnek and Ginny Williams and Dianne Short and May Thompson (they ended winning all three of their games.)
Sunday will see the semi-finals and finals of both sections played, games starting at 10.00 o’clock.
