Yesterday, post section play in the Balloted Pairs started at 10am, two games in the Men’s and Women’s sections.

Because I was playing, I was not able to watch other games, but scorecards give some indication on how things went.

Christine and Joan surely went well in their match against Lodzia and Ginny, the final score at 18-4.  Bronwyn and Dawn playing Dianne and May were keeping level, 6 all after seven ends, but though scoring mostly singles, the former pair went on to win 14-10.

The women’s final must have been an interesting game to watch. Christine and Joan found themselves trailing by 1-15 after eight ends but from then on, scored points on all but one of the next  seven. Unfortunately for them, they had just left their recovery too late, the win finally going to Bronwyn and and Dawn 16-12. Congratulation to the winners.

In the Men’s semifinal, Paul and Ken had two fours and three singles in their game against Neville and Keith, but were out pointed, losing the match 11-20

With my namesake, Ian, as my partner, we met Joe and Robert, a pair that we had played the day before. We started well and were in front 8-1 after five ends but then found ourselves trailing 8-11 after nine ends. We got going again and won all the remaining ends, taking out the game 20-11.

So to the final where we started well, scoring a single on the first end but…. we only managed to gain any further points on three more ends, (at least they did include a three and a four!!) The final score shows how greatly we were outplayed, going down 9-20.  The winners really played well and deserved their win.

My personal thanks go to my partner Ian, still a Junior,  but he really played well and I hope he enjoyed the experience of playing in such a  competition.
