Saturday saw three rounds played in the Handicap Singles to find the contestants for Sunday’s post section play. Eight players had made it through to start play at 9.00am but play was delayed until 10.00am because over night and morning light rain. Qualifiers were: Joan Hayward (2), Lodzia Wnek (2),Diana McGill (4), Bronwyn McMahon (3), Hazel Rose (0), Barbara Selley (2), Alice Spicer (2), Margaret MacKay (2) As can be seen by bracketed numbers, no-one got a very big handicap start so competition was going to be tight. The semi-finals were played between Joan and Bronwyn and Alice and Hazel and in both games, the scores were close until one player in each pair got away. Joan and Bronwyn, after 16 ends, were level on fourteen points each but then Bronwyn scored on the next three ends to give her the win on 21 points.. In the other game, ten was a popular number with both players having 10 points on the tenth end. Hazel then took total control and went on to reach 21 points for the win. It was final time now and was played between Bronwyn and Hazel.

By now a good crowd had turned up to watch the match and it proved to be entertaining. From the start, Bronwyn seemed to get the better line and length and after five ends was leading 10-0. Though Hazel did get some good bowls into the heads, it seemed that Bronwyn had one of those days when things just worked well and she reached the win after 19 ends with the score at 21-9.
Congratulations to both ladies on reaching the final and thanks from the crowd, you certainly entertained us all.
