Championship Fours started today, not too windy, not too hot and a very good green to play on.
Because there were seven men’s teams entered, it has become necessary for an extra round to be played tomorrow morning to finalise the number of teams to be in the post-section.
The ladies have found three qualifying teams; they are skipped by Alice Spicer, Dianne Short and Margaret MacKay.

Women’s Fours in action
But then things changed dramatically.
It took place during the afternoon when a team needed a very important shot to impress those watching the game.
The opposing number three delivered his bowl with good line and weight and things looked OK until we could see that he had made an error. His red bowl reached the head but instead of arriving in the correct place, it hit one of the opposition’s bowls and gave them the shot. Not what was expected at all.
At least the other team’s players smiled quite happily but it was now up to the skips to deal with the situation. Neville had to get rid of the shot. His first effort was good but a short bowl was in the way and diverted the line of his bowl. The other skip really didn’t try too hard as they were now already holding the necessary shot. Up came the next drive but it also made no difference to the head.
And that was it….I had one bowl left to alter the score board but there seemed to be no point as we, as a team, now had the number one added to our side of the board. That was it. We had been there throughout the game with the score on our side of the board showing 0 and as there was only a couple of ends to go, there now seemed to be no good reason to add to our total.
No Down Trou required, we could leave the rink at least with that problem solved.
