A full green on Saturday saw the start of the Mixed Pairs Championship played; 18 ends per game and two wins out of three games, needed to qualify. This resulted after Day 1 with nine teams qualifying.
Sunday morning saw the start of Post Section play which meant that Fred Adams-Joan Hayward playing Neville and SharonTurnbull, got the competition under way. The other six teams had the opportunity of sleeping in as they each had a bye.
Fred quickly got the first five ends won with 9 points but Neville, scoring 14 by the 14th end saw Fred behind at 11.
With the final end to come, the score at 16 each, Fred and partner won two points to take them through to win 18-16.each,
Four games were then played and saw some close games; Hazel Rose playing Ken Hayward, both on 15 points with two ends to go but then the score went to 17-15 won by Ken and Hildi.
Keith West and Jan Dawson played Jim Bagnall and Margaret Lowndes, another tight game and the teams entered the final game with the score level at 14 all. One more point went to Jim and that game was won.
Susan and I got a good start and were leading 13-5 after eleven ends, but our opponents, Liz Galloway and Trevor Turnbull got moving and won the game 18- 14.
Alice and Rex Spicer on rink 8 faced Fred and Joan and for some time just failed to get under way but finally got going but still were left behind to give Fred the win.
Semi-final games were played late in the day between Ken and Jim and after 13 ends, the score was at 10 all, The final end completed saw Ken and Hildi winning with the score at 16-12.
The other semi-final was between Liz and Fred . Fred – Joan soon were leading well, two consecutive ends of 5 point in the middle of the game making things very difficult. The game finally ended at 25-10.
During this week, (not sure when) the final will be played between Ken Hayward-Hildi Ewart and Fred Adams-Joan Adams to win the last of the season’s competitions.
