Back In Action

Had a bit of time off but back in action today, firstly on the green and now writing about playing on the artificial green.
A week in Christchurch was a real education; it takes a visit in the area to see the results of a large earthquake.
Back home now, and today, our mixed fours team after having a bye in the post-section, played Alice and Rex and Joe and Lodzia. It was the first time we as a team had played north and south on the artificial green. A discussion at the AGM was held about whether we should play both ways, not just the East-West direction that has been used. It will be interesting to see how well it and the players perform. Today was an interesting test for many players as we played North and South while the wind blew strongly from the west. For most players this would have been with and then into a strong wind and it will be interesting to see and hear how players have been reacting.
We played our match, 12 ends, and the team performed well enough to have a good win, 20 – 8. The strong wind did cause some problems and players had to adapt to the very wide hand or in contrast, the nearly straight one.
As yet, no date has yet been planned for the next round.
Tomorrow will have the green full for the 11.00 o’clock gala. I know the starting time but wonder which way we will be playing!!

Note that the players are well wrapped up because of the cool wind and the flag shows its direction and strength. Players are waiting for their skips to deliver their bowls.
