The forecast wasn’t too good but as it turned out, we had a sunny day but with a steady cool wind keeping us cool throughout the day.
The semifinal started around 10.00am, the match being played between, Susan Boxall and her team – Hazel Rose, Ian Upston and Ian Wenham and Neville Turnbull and his players – Barry Cross, Diana McGill and Sharon Turnbull.
This photo gives you some idea as to how the easterly breeze could easily stop bowls from reaching the head. It wasn’t happening all the time but could, and often did, frustrate a player if their bowl didn’t reach the head..
As can be seen from the scorecard, there was never any real big points scored between the two teams.
Only twelve ends were played to find the winner and as can be seen on the scorecard, it was only when Susan and her team won four ends in a row that gave us the lead of 11-7. Dropping a three and then a single brought the game to a draw and an extra end had to be played.
All looked well for our team; we were holding a winning shot until the very last bowl. Down it came, perfect weight and line to move our shot bowl…. and the game was won by Neville and his team.
We all tried our best but both Skips, Susan and Neville, really played well in this game.
The final got started after lunch with Neville’s team playing Keith West (s), Margaret Griffin, Jan Dawson and Jack Gray.
As can be seen from the scorecard, things weren’t going too well for Keith and his team when they were trailing half way through the game at 12- nil.
Things did get going for them from then on but they just weren’t able to catch up with their opponents and the game and title went to Neville and his team. Congratulations.
