A bit unusual to see a Championship being played so early in the season but it does at least get players right into competitive play.
A fine sunny morning but the breeze that was present for most of the day was certainly very cool.
Twelve teams had been entered and the draw was prepared last Thursday afternoon. A final decision was made on which green was to be used; a lot of preparation had been done over recent months with the cotula green and it was finally decided that play would take place on there. A final mowing took place before play; two trial ends took place and then the games got started. It quickly showed that the green was going to be very heavy but as the day wore on it became a little more easy to reach the heads. Certainly it was pleasing to see that the surface was quite true.
To qualify for tomorrows post-section play, two out of three games had to be won today for a team to qualify.
This resulted in half the teams making it. The draw was done late in the afternoon and shows that play will take place tomorrow starting at 9.00am.
TEAMS.
Round 0ne: K Wikstrom v K Hayward and N Turnbull v M Griffin
Round Two: The winners of the above two games then play each other while at the same time,
K Ballinger plays D Short.
Final Round: This then gives us the two teams to take out the trophy.
Will be an interesting day to find the first Champion team for the season.
