The Winning Team Found

Post-Section got underway this morning with two games being played, the first between the teams skipped by Ken Hayward and Pat Wikstrom. These two teams had met each other yesterday with Ken’s players winning. Facing each other today saw the scores close for much of the game.

After 11 ends, Pat was leading 10-5 but a three on the next end from Ken’s players raised their score to 8. Another point for Pat then saw the teams entering the last end with the score favouring Pat 11-8. Real pressure for all players.  All ended with four points going to Ken and his players, the win at 12-11. A real pressure match.
The other game played at the same time was between Neville Turnbull and Murray Griffin. Both these teams started slowly but two threes half way through the game got Neville’s team leading 8-3. Though Murray’s players raised their final score to 7, their opposition was too strong and the final score was 16-7.
The next round of games were between Ken and Neville and Dianne Short playing Shoota. A good number of members were by then at the club keeping their eyes on these two semi final games.
Ken and Neville’s game was another close match with some really tight heads played. After ten ends, their scores  were level at 7 all showing how close the heads had been but the next  four played were won by Neville giving them the win, 13-7.
Dianne had waited to see which team they would have to play after the earlier games. Shoota’s players turned up and made things just too difficult for their opposition making scoring just too difficult on the daya and the game ended after 11 ends with the score at 20-4.

So the finalists were found and were ready to take the first of the summer Balloted Championships.

Jimmy Adams, Joan Hayward, Shoota Ballinger

The final saw the end of what had been and an interesting competition.

I was not able to see most of this last game but the final score shows that Shoota and his team must have been ‘running hot’, the game ending after only 10 ends at 15-4.  Our congratulations to you.

Next weekend sees sees Men’s and Women’s Balloted Triples competition get started  – entries in by Thursday afternoon.
