Summer Galas Start

Today saw the start of this year’s summer galas. No sign of a cloud in today’s blue sky, plenty of sunshine but equally, still some cold air around.
Games started at 9.30am with 7 rinks on the cotula green being used and 4 games of 10 ends being played throughout the day.
The green had some slow periods and proved a challenge for some teams and players but was an equal challenge for all. My team’s last game found our rink flowing well whereas, earlier, we all seemed to struggle with the line and weight. All signs are that the green will prove to be just as good as it was last season.
Club helpers again proved themselves and we thank them for their efforts; May and Dawn in the kitchen, Coral looking after the Bar, Murray preparing the green, Julie with the raffle and others who prepared in one way or another, setting up the day.
John Adams and his players, Keith West and Julie Stitchbury, proved to be the only team winning all their games with 23 ends won and 50 points gained.
Second place went to the Turnbull trio; Neville, Sharon and Trevor having 3 wins from 26 ends gaining 54 points.
In third place was Ian Wenham Susan Boxall and Ian Upston. We also won 3 games but with less ends and points (24/41).
Overall, a ‘fine’ day. Playing ten ends did prove for many, a long day’s play which ended quite late. Playing 8 ends during winter seemed to go well; this might be a better standard for summer as well. Worth some discussion perhaps.
