Challenges in Championship Pairs

Certainly Saturday proved to be a day full of challenges on the greens. This year’s Championship Pairs got started at 9.00am, the ladies playing on the cotula green and the men on the Dales surface.
It was very clear that there were some tough games ahead but also with the added challenge of a very strong wind. The ladies were playing north and south and had the westerly taking ‘side issues’ with their bowls. On the other green, we had the men playing into or with the wind. The westerly was very strong and  often bowls would look promising but then pull up short.
At least two wins were necessary for a Pair to go into post section play on Sunday and the draw is as follows:
Women:
9.00am start
Round 1 – Christine Gardner to play Bronwyn McMahon
Round 2 – The winner to play Hazel Rose, and Alice Spicer to play Dianne Short .
The final to follow.

Men:
Round 1 – Neville Turnbull v’s Jim Adams and Bill Clelland v’s Ken Hayward
Round 2  – Winners from the above two matches to play each other and the other game will be Joe Wnek v’s Rob Cotter, both who had had the bye.
There will be interesting matches to view.
