An ‘Odd’ Week

Must have been my age!
Things should have got under way last Monday but nor so. It was late in the day when I remembered that I was going to attend a funeral but,,,,I just forgot.
Came Tuesday, nothing to note in my club book or on my calendar so I spent much of the morning in the garden, that is until the phone rang around 11.00am with the information that I had missed attending the Gala at the club. In reality, there was nothing in the handbook for Tuesday’s info, but that was because what had been planned originally, had been in the book earlier in the season and for one reason or another, had been listed only on our info pages at the club. Yes, I had noted my name on the sheet but for one reason or another, I had just forgotten. There had been and effort to contact me before the start of play but the line tended to be engaged. So, a second day had been missed.
Finally, I got into gear and turned up for Thursday’s roll-up.

And so to today. Interclub to be played at Paraparaumu. We go under way and arrived at the club in time to get ready for the game and play did start, a game against Waikanae Beach.
Joe my lead, Garry my Two, Paul at three,  and off we started after winning the toss.
All went well until the last three ends. We were well up on the score board but then a problem arrived. In way or another, we dropped 7 points, then on the next end, another two, and so entered the last end with only 4 points lead.
By the time I changed ends, we were at least three down. The opposition skip sent down his first bowl and it looked as though they might have another shot.
It was a long end and with my first bowl, I only managed to send up a short bowl. It was then my opponent decided that all they needed to do was move the Jack a little to the side for a clean win. To do that, he changed his line and sent up his bowl. It reached the head, clipped the jack …. and sent it over to our one back bowl.
Quite a happy (for us) way to reach the end of the game. It just showed how easily things can change in a game.
We had a happy lunch time and it was then we found out that we would not be playing the second game. (only two games were need in the competition to find the eventual winner of our section of Interclub, so we ended  the day’s competition on a happy note, even though we not able to take out the event’s title as we were listed well down on the list.
Certainly and odd week even for me. Let’s hope all my organizations will be clear this coming week.
