Today saw the playing of the Jack Hammond Shield on both our greens, an event played for many years by teams from our local clubs, Central Levin, a combined team made up with players from RSA and Levin Women and our Bowls Levin Club.
Someone did ask me who Jack Hammond was and I was able to inform him that he was the President of the club back in 1970. (Note that Margaret Griffin who is involved with so many of our events, is the daughter of Selby Hammond, a previous Life Member of the club but who was not related to Jack Hammond as far as I know.)
Clubs had two section, with male and female players in A Section and B Section. to play Singles and Fours in the morning and Pairs and Triples in the afternoon.
By the end of play, Bill Clelland and Margaret Griffin who were the Recorders, were able to announce to all that the winning club this year was Central Levin with 28 points with the Levin Club close with 27 points.
