It Takes Just One Bowl.

Another Gala day, 3 games of eight ends each, some moments of fun, but perhaps for me, a most memorable very very cold.
Mind you, I do have another memorable moment  that took place in one game, but I’ll get to that later.
It was good to see the green all but full of teams, and once signed in, the games got under way.

At least we had only one basic thing to remember to start the day and that was that we had drawn to play on Rinks 1, 2 and 3 so play got started on time.
Enthusiastic perhaps, but for one reason or another, we just didn’t do too well in that game and we recorded a loss. Not too important to worry about during lunch  and out we went for the first afternoon game.
Things seemed to be still causing us a problem, difficulty in being able to record a score on the board.
But at last it looked as though things would turn out positively on the last end with enough of our bowls near the Jack to give us at last, a WIN.

Susan, our skip, added her three bowls to the head and this was causing her opponent Jimmy a problem. His first bowl, on its way with some pace, missed the head, so he thought he would solve the problem with bowl number 2.
Alas, for him and his team, this second bowl didn’t alter a thing, so his last effort had to achieve some sort of result.
It certainly looked as if this third bowl had little accuracy when it carefully arrived at the head, but it really looked as if it  would do any good for his team.
But one never knows in any game just what would eventuate and here was another such case. His bowl was too narrow and ran into the head, not with great speed or accuracy, but it was effective. It hit a short bowl which then slowly moved forward and finally came to a stop right near the Jack. That bowl made all the difference ‘cos it was one of his team’s bowls which now was the shot bowl. Our chance of a win had gone. No worry, we really hadn’t played well and it showed how games can be changed even by a bowl that seemed to have a mind of its own.
Jimmy and his team had played well and were the winners.

Came game three and we did get the match going but the weather was doing little good with threatening rain close by, so we joined our opponents in the warm clubrooms to end our day’s play.

The teams who succeeded in their games were:
1st  Neville Turnbull, Julie Stichbury, Bello Law – 3 wins. 15 ends, 27 points.
2nd  Trevor and Brenda Fellows, Tom Hamer – 2 wins and a draw, 15 ends, 28 points
3rd  Bryan Furness, Brian Coe, Keith West – 2 wins and a draw, 12 ends, 34 points.

3 players

All eyes on the heads at the other end.

Hazel in one game, Omeka and Lodzia on the next rink.
