The final of the Men’s Open Singles was played on Saturday 6 December with two players – Rob Cotter and Paul Gardner – who had not won the title before squaring off in the final. Conditions were perfect with the green running true and little wind to worry about. Rob drew away to lead 13 – 6 after a very even start. Paul then came back to 10 – 13 before Rob was able to pull away to take the title at 21 – 13.
The title has certainly been shared around. In the last 15 years there have been 12 different winners with only  Neville Turnbull, Ken Hayward and Jim Bentley winning twice,  the other winners this century being  Ian Wenham, Brian Thompson, David Lowndes, David Walker,. Barry Cross, Gary Wylie, Shoota Ballinger and the late Bob.Skilton.
