Sunny but frosty, cold weather greeted the players on Saturday morning for the first day of the Queen’s Birthday Mixed Pairs tournament. Thanks to our sponsors, Quality Keys and Engraving, there was good prize money available for a full carpet green. Players were seeded into sections of four by the organizer Rob. Cotter with section winners on the first day forming the top group to compete for the main prize on the Sunday.
At the end of the first day the brother and sister combo of Rex Holmes and Janet O’Dwyer from Paraparaumu Beach were the top qualifiers and on the second day they met our John Adams and Julie Stichbury in the final game for the top section. In the end the game was drawn 11-11 and Rex and Janet were the winners with a one point differential advantage over John and Julie. Third place went to Gary Wylie and Diana McGill.
The second section was much more clear cut with Ken Hayward and Bronwyn McMahon winning all three games by wide margins with Margaret Griffin and Stacey Thomas finishing second. The third section was won by Sam Kwok from Raumati |South playing with Heather Stempa and the fourth section by Kevin and Christina Bryan from Palmerston North.
Thanks Rob. and your helpers for a well run and successful tournament.
