Top bowler from Palmerston North Terry Johnson and his wife Jae has applied to join Levin Bowls. They will travel to play at Levin. That means possibly our top four men’s players Daryll Johnson, Kumara Selby, Eddie Irving and Terry Johnson have joined Levin Bowls in the past year. The selectors job is now a lot harder and long establish club bowlers in the top interclub teams, the “Premier Sevens (1&2)” may find it hard to make these teams. We also have several less experienced players who are knocking on the door so selections for the interclub this year will be very interesting said Shoota Ballinger. While many of us men will be disappointed, it’s a fantastic position for the club to be in and we should go very close to winning both Men’s Premier Sevens events this coming season.
Also recently Levin Bowls has had two top women bowlers join. Irene Poletti formally a top Taranaki rep player and Maggie Copland the current Kapiti rep pairs skip from Waikanae is travelling this year to play her bowls at Levin Bowls. Levin Bowls has two different greens said Copland, the very good live cotula green and an artificial. Their playing programme is superior and there are some very good young bowlers such as Diana McGill and Julie Stichbury. Copland recently broke her bowling wrist but hopes to be back bowling by October. I’m really looking forward to playing at Levin Bowls and forming playing relationships with the other women bowlers said Copland.
