Levin Bowls Open Day

On Saturday the 2nd September Levin Bowling Club held its open day for the season 2017 – 2018.

The attendance from club members was fantastic with a lot of our new members coming and also many of our older members also being present.

Madam President Diane Short greeted everyone and her opening speech highlighted the growth of the club, all the fantastic work being done by the volunteers and also the need for more helpers to support these people.

There was a minutes silence for those members who have fallen, they will be missed.

Neville Turnbull also spoke as Vice President of Kapiti bowls and in his speech he also mentioned our success as a club in bucking the trend which was quite evident as part of his portfolio is having to visit other local clubs and get updates on there status……he also highlighted the success of individuals who were recognised at the inaugural Bowls Kapiti Coast Prize Giving.

The guest speaker was a representative from Summerset and she gave a very informative speech on how this retirement village too has also grown and there now is a waiting list of up to 4 years to gain residency.

Two mixed championships were awarded to there recipients, the mixed fours and mixed singles.

Ian Wenham had the honour of sending the first kitty up and Margaret Griffen had the honour of sending first bowl up….

The afternoon was  concluded with a splendid afternoon tea.

Good bowls to all and here’s hoping we have another successful year.
