Seddon Shield

After many days of sunshine, today turned out to be damp for the playing of the Seddon Shield at our club. It was a fine drizzle really, not enough to puddle the greens, but sufficient to make us all wet by the time we went in for lunch.

Where possible, clubs were to send two teams, each made up with 2 men and 2 women and to include club workers. 4 games of 10 ends were played but we were not sure whether this was going to be possible during the morning, but the afternoon cleared up and at least we were able to dry off – even if the sun still remained hidden.

Twenty-two teams were entered which necessitated using three rinks on the artificial green.  On reflection, the decision to play on it East/West was a pity as it proved to be very difficult to get true lines and one needed a ‘good sense of humour’ to appreciate the way some of the bowls were behaving. Fortunately the cotula played very well.

Rex Spicer, well wrapped up, delivers his bowl; his team recorded three wins but missed out on taking a prize.

In this game on the artificial green, Dianne Short seems to be using an extra pair of eyes to help get her bowl on target

It seems to have been successful; Paul Gardner is indicating that the team holds 2 shots. (I hope that is what he is signaling!)

At the end of the day, Evert Kramer, EtherLittle, Jessie Sneddon and skip Sonny McGrath from the Paraparaumu Club took the top prize and the Seddon Shield for their club.

Team Results:

Paraparaumu Beach ‘B’ – the only team to record 4 wins.

Central Levin ‘B’ with 3 wins and 23 ends and a differential of +16

RSA ‘A’ with 3 wins, 23 ends and a differential of +14

Raumati Sth ‘B’ with 3 wins and 22 ends and +11

The club thanks all who helped in so many ways to make the event a success under at times, trying conditions.  We look forward to next year, finding a sunny day to hold the event.
