Shoota Ballinger v’s Dave Walker
It certainly was a great final played this afternoon between Shoota and Dave Walker, here shaking hands before the start of their game.
Post Section got underway this morning with a close game between Stafford and Paul Gardner with the former taking the win 21-19. Stafford kept on with his good form and liking for close finishes, winning his next game against Brian Cooper 21-20. (Brian had a similar close game yesterday but with a win)
In that same round, things looked grim for Dave Walker when the score was 16-4 in favour of his opponent, Rob Cotter. Rob only managed another single while Dave went on scoring to reach 21 and the win. Rex Spicer and Shoota also won their games reaching the quarter finals.
Shoota won his semifinal against Rex 21-7 while Dave won against Stafford 21-13. It was great to see all these players doing so well … and then it was final time between Dave and Shoota.
Overall the play between these two was great to watch with neither player getting too big a lead throughout the match. The win could have gone either way, but Shoota, dropping a 4 when leading 18-13 brought Dave right into contention again. Just three more ends were needed to finish the game, a win to Dave Walker by 21-19. A real pleasure to watch the game, enjoyed by a good number of onlookers.
