Our annual event, the Haggis Gala took place today, a full green, but plenty of room for more teams to enjoy the challenge of the day and attempt to take out the top prize.
The day takes a lot of organising and all those who helped in one way or another, we thank them. Without their assistance, the day would not turn out to be such pleasurable occasion.
Players were all welcomed with a tot, given their draw for the day and then the games got underway at 9.30am.
Two games were played in the morning and, after a lunch prepared for all by our kitchen team, another two games were played.
Some surprising results occurred during the day.e.g. If interested, ask the Waitarere team who went down in their last game. They had played well in their earlier games (my team knows – they only let us win one end) but they obviously met up with a tough team in their last game.
After the games, time to relax, and as it was a Haggis Gala, we were appropriately entertained by Don McAllister from the Whitby Bowling Club. He has supported us for quite some time in this event and the club gives our special thanks to him for joining us each year.
The Haggis Ceremony started with a parade lead by Piper Donald Waters and assisted by Don McAllister, Skip McPhee, Jimmy Mitchie and Archie Stevenson.

We all understood the Toast to the Club and then the Haggis and we all knew that it was fresh when Don cut a piece and tried it, only to find it was still very hot!
Great to see this ceremony each year and really it is worth while having a look at the website so that you understand what it is all about.
Presentation time followed, results as follows:
1st N Turnbull (s), Shoota Ballinger and Trevor Tuatara – 4 wins and 22 ends.
2nd Gordon Buick, Dave Walker and Gordon Thorby – 3½ wins and 18 ends.
34d Roy Sewell (s), Clem Courtney and Jim Mitchie – wins 27 ends.
