We had two Junior pairs teams playing today in the Kapiti Centre Junior 2x4x2 Pairs at the Waikanae Club. Bill and Vern won their first game but though the next two games were close, they missed out in qualifying for tomorrow’s Post Section rounds.
Our other combination, Ken and Jan, won their first game, had a close game in the next round but needed a win in game three to qualify, and it’s pleasing to say that this was achieved. We wish them well for tomorrow.
It was sad for the club to read that Kay Kempton had passed away. Kay was the wife of Howard who was a member of the club but who died a few years ago. He is still well remembered by those of us who were here when he was playing.
Though not a member herself, Kay had always supported the club and donated a trophy after Howard passed on.
Each year, until it became too difficult for her to do so, Kay attended our Presentation Day and congratulated the winner of the Howard Kempton Trophy which is annually presented to the Most Improved Player.
Our thanks and thoughts go to the Kempton family.
