Balloted Triples Finals Played

Another good day for playing the Balloted Triples on the fine looking cotula green.
Two men’s games and one semi final women’s game were played in the morning.
Dianne Short with Dawn Dales and Maree Anstis faced Susan Boxall, Joan Hayward and Diana McGill and after 7 ends the score was level at 4 all but then Susan’s team went on to win 17-6 putting them into the final.
Lodzia Wnek with Alice Spicer and Liz Galloway who had had a bye, played Susan’s team, with each only scoring singles in the early ends of the game; 4-3 after seven ends.  Susan’s team then went on strongly, finishing the game and taking the title at 15 – 7

Joan Hayward, Susan Boxall (s), Diana, McGill

The two men’s semi finals in the morning were really tight games. Brian Cooper’s team played Neville Turnbull’s team and after 12 ends, things looked good for Brian with the score at 14-8. Neville scored on the last three ends but just missed out, with the final score and win going to Brian, 14-13.
In the other match things were close after 9 ends with Paul Gardner’s team leading Joe Wnek’s team, 10-9
With three ends to be played, Paul was leading 14-10 but the score at the completion of the last end saw the teams drawn at 14 all.
The match was finally decided with the extra end going to Joe, Bill and Ian, 15-14.

So to the men’s final and another close match. With only three ends to go, the score was level at 11 all but Brian’s team scored singles on the last three ends to take the match and title, 14-11. Another close match.

All games were watched by interested club members who enjoyed watching the games, especially when  the final results could have gone to any of the teams.
