Back in September we had Balloted events played for Men, Women and Combined teams.
The Balloted Mixed Triples was the first played and that was won by Shoota Ballinger (s), Jimmy Adams and Joan Hayward. The following weekend, the Men’s and Women’s Triples teams were drawn but because of the weather, their finals had to be put off to a later date. Another competition was played last weekend, again balloted, Mixed 2x4x2 Pairs. These games have been reported in my previous blogs.
It has been an interesting way to get the summer season started and though the weather has not been great, the players have enjoyed the challenges. As well, we have been using the cotula green and it has shown that it will again be a very useful surface for our games.
Today, though a little cool, the opportunity was taken to play the men’s final for the Balloted triples, this between Rob Cotter (s), John Bagnall and Ian Upston and John Adams (s), Murray Griffin and Jimmy Adams.
The game got started at 9.00am on Green1 with 14 ends to be played. Both teams played well and things were tight entering the last end with Rob behind with the score at 11-14. His team built up the head to hold three points to call on an extra end but a forceful bowl from John saw one of the close bowls leave the group and the game was over. A win to John and his team.
As yet, the women’s final date is still to be set and we look forward to watching that game when it is played.
An interesting point about the Men’s balloted finals is that Jimmy Adams played in each, in three different teams and players, and was a winner in each final. Must have real talent, Jimmy!
