Bowls Kapiti Coast Men’s Singles

The Men’s Centre Singles got started at two clubs in Levin over the weekend, two greens at Central and our cotula green being used.
It was good seeing seven of our players taking part and by the end of Saturday, four had qualified. The draw was then made for Sunday’s play to get started on Central’s Green 2.
Neville Turnbull, Dave Scrivener and John Adams got their games started at 9.00am and Rob Cotter got a bye for this round.  With a win against Gary Wylie, a player we know so well and appreciate his skills, Dave was in good form and was able to go on to the next round. John and Neville both had done well but went out in this round.
Rob had a tight game in the second  round, facing G Welply from the Paraparaumu Beach Club. He played well but his opponent was running hot and won the game 21-15.
Trevor Tuatara, the player who had put Neville out was Dave’s next opponent  and he now had a real battle. Tight heads were being played, bowls drawn so often close to the Jack by both players. Trevor finally won the game by one point, 21-20. Still a fine effort from Dave over the whole weekend.
Another round was played and by the end of the day’s play, four players were left to start the semi-final at 10.00am tomorrow.
It was interesting watching players taking part in this Singles competition over the weekend, a chance to see how skilled so many bowlers are, playing such a variety of shots needed throughout their games.
If you have the time, worth a look at Central tomorrow.
